Coinciding with the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Reunification of Vietnam (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025), Hau Giang Biomass Energy Joint Stock Company, in coordination with the General Contractor, Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 (PECC2), formally held the Inauguration Ceremony for the Hau Giang Biomass Power Plant – a landmark project symbolizing the trend of green and sustainable energy development in the Mekong Delta region.
The Hau Giang Biomass Power Plant project is invested by Hau Giang Biomass Energy Joint Stock Company (HBE), with Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 (PECC2) serving as the General Contractor. This is the first biomass power plant in Vietnam to utilize traditional condensing steam turbine technology. Its fuel source, biomass (primarily rice husk), is carbon-neutral and environmentally friendly, transported via a dedicated fuel-receiving port system that accommodates vessels up to 300 tons. The project is fully equipped with advanced waste treatment technology, ensuring compliance with all regulated environmental standards.

This is the first biomass power plant project where PECC2 has had the distinction of serving as the EPC General Contractor while also directly undertaking the plant’s management and operation. This event not only affirms PECC2’s comprehensive capabilities in executing green energy projects but also demonstrates the company’s strategy for sustainable growth and business diversification.

As a pioneering enterprise in the energy sector, PECC2 currently focuses on developing three core service areas: Integrated EPC General Contracting; Power Plant Operation & Management; and High-Quality Mechanical Fabrication & Manufacturing.
Notably, in the field of power plant operation and management, PECC2 possesses a solid foundation of experience, having effectively operated 31 power plants with a total capacity of up to 2,400 MWp. This reflects not only a systematic management and operational capability but also a commitment to the safety, efficiency, and performance optimization of every project PECC2 undertakes.
In the journey to construct this significant project, in addition to explosion-proof electrical equipment, DPKT Technical Development Trading Service Co., Ltd (DPKT Technologies) is proud to be the provider of laboratory equipment and testing instruments, making a significant contribution to the stable and efficient operation of the plant.
“DPKT does not just supply equipment; we carry with us a conviction in the future of our nation’s green development. Partnering on this project is a source of pride, a responsibility, and reflects DPKT’s aspiration for Vietnam’s sustainable energy sector,” shared Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Deputy General Director of DPKT Technologies.
Upon entering commercial operation, the Hau Giang Biomass Power Plant will be the largest grid-connected, rice husk-fueled biomass plant to commence operation in Vietnam. With a capacity of 2x10MW, the plant will supply approximately 130 million kWh to the national grid annually, offsetting over 36,800 metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions each year. The facility contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with the government’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Furthermore, the plant will help diversify power generation sources and enhance energy security for Hau Giang province and the wider Mekong Delta region.
